Based on the Book
Wonder by R.J Pallasio
Depending on how you look at it August can be a kid struggling in school because his face is deformed or you can look at it like he is going through a adventure because he has never gone to school before, and he is making friends. After reading the story, Wonder , and talking about it with others, it seems that not everyone thinks about the story in the same way. Also i think he is about. Some people think that the story is about Augest getting bullied and just getting laughed at They think that the people just want to feel good so they bully him and because he is different from everyone else. But I think the story is much more than that. August a boy with a deformed face and he gets bullied in his first year of school. He is going into school for the first time at 5th grade because he and his parents think kids will just make fun of him. And he is going on this journey and hey makes friends on the way. I think Wonder is really about a boy who uses courage and perseverance to never give up in life. (8)
Early in the story, there is Evidence that August gets bullied. For example, the book says that people where calling him a monster and giving him rude notes in his locker. He makes friends early on but not a lot. His friends are nice to him and stand up for Auggie. Jullian which is a bully and he is popular, and jack which is one of auggies friends used to be friends with jullian and now he is standing up for auggie. This shows that, Through the book more people stop bullying him because he is not being affected because his friends are sporting him (6 )
Later in the story, Everyone gets used to him and stop starring at him and some are talking to Auggie. Then everyone except jullian stop bulling him. Even Jullians old friends start stand up for auggie to jullian. Then everyone starts talking to Auggie and standing up for him except Jullian. Then his dog dies and it gets really hard for him because daisy the dog was his best friend. His sister then starts fresh at a new high school and no one knows about Auggie and there is a play coming up and she doesn’t tell the family because she doesn’t want Auggie coming cause then everyone would know.
At the end of the story Then school camp comes up, But it is not only was the school but it was also more schools to. Auggie got nervous and didn’t want to go then a group of kids from his school said they would protect him at camp and the Auggie agreed to come. This makes Auggie happy. Auggie becomes really happy because he gets to go to camp and feel safe. He goes to camp and everything is fine. But then at Night he has to go to the bathroom and his “Body Guards” come with him and wait outside the stalls where full and his friends just said to go in the bushes. He goes to the bushes and then 4 kids approach and shine a flash light on Auggies face and start laughing and calling him mean names. His “Body Guards” tell them to stop and the the boys said “Make me” and they kept calling him names, then jack said “ okay that’s it” and punched him in the face. Then a fought broke out and they all ran back to the group.
Now, as I think about Courage and perseverance, I realize that we can do so much and get through a lot if you have friends/family and you to courage yourself with the help of perseverance. Perseverance and courage is key to life all your goals that you think you can’t do just believe in you self and you can do it. In my life, I have found that courage and perseverance is key to life. If you come to an obstacle like Auggie did with school don’t give up keep trying.
